Teaching and Learning Strategies
All students learn differently.
As such, it is important as an educator to know many different teaching and learning strategies that can be used with students. Here are some great teaching and learning strategies that I have used...
SOCIAL STORIES - CAROL GRAY
Social stories are most often used with children with ASD. Social stories help to explain social interaction and nuances.
In the video below, I have examined a sample story to see if it meets the criteria of a Social Story as set out by Carol Gray.
SELF CORRECTING MATERIAL
After an educator teaches a lesson, they may present students with a Self Correcting Material (SCM) activity. A SCM is performed by the student independently, free of judgment, and the student gets immediate feedback as to whether their answer is correct. A SCM is a way to practice a newly acquired skill and build fluency.
Below is a video for a self-correcting clock that I created.
MANIPULATIVES
Manipulatives are a multisensory approach to teaching and learning. They allow students to make physical representations of mathematical concepts.
